Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) - The True Friend

It has been sixteen years since Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) formally commenced his mission. The seeds sown at that time have blossomed into a huge huge banyan tree that provides shade, shelter and support to millions of Shraddhavaans.

At that time there were just a handful of Shraddhavaans who chose the path shown by Bapu (Aniruddhasinh). One such family that joined Bapu was of Shri. Padmakar Chitre and his wife Smt. Sunita Chitre, along with his younger brother, Shri. Arvind Chitre and his family. Today, Shri. Padmakar Chitre is around 83 years of age and his wife is 81. Both of them are quite old and are unable to attend all the functions and Utsavs celebrated by the Sanstha, as also the regular pravachans of Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) at Shree Harigurugram. But back in those days, i.e. 1996 both husband and wife have taken real pains in doing Gunasankirtan of Bapu. They utilized every single opportunity that came their way for doing Gunasankirtan of their Sadguru. They have the distinction of being one of the very few who have attended all the Rasa yatras and the Bhavyatra at Shree Kshetra Pandharpur along with Bapu (Aniruddhasinh), Nandai and Suchitdada.

Sports, Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) and We

The London Olympics 2012 finally opened to a spectacular inaugural ceremony that showcased a dazzling display of the latest technology, lights and fireworks. It is said that apart from the 80,000 spectators who had thronged the stadium for the inaugural ceremony, an estimated 3 billion people worldwide watched the ceremony on TV.

Bapu
(Aniruddhasinh) has time and again stressed upon the importance of sports in our lives. I have personally played with Bapu (Aniruddhasinh), Nandai and Suchitdada during various trips and picnics I have been privileged to be a part of. The latest such occasion was when we had been to Umergaon for ushering in the new year. What stood out very clearly was their complete involvement in the game, their going out of the way to make the other participants feel at ease and shed their shyness and inhibitions so that they too enjoy the game fully.

Olympics 2012

Olympics 2012, london

The opening ceremony for the 30th Olympic (Olympics 2012) have begun just now at London. I am sure millions of people must be watching the same across the globe & it will be a treat to watch them. Let The games Begin!!!!!

India's greatest successes at the Olympics have come in men's hockey. India won every men's Hockey title from 1928 to 1956 but thereafter our performances have deteriorated for the reasons best known to all of us. In the last Olympics at Beijing, in individual events, we had won 1 Gold and 2 Bronze medals, thanks to the good performance in shooting and wrestling. We may expect a better performance this time.

Bapu's (Aniruddhasinh) love for sports is already well known. He strongly advocates the importance of playing outdoor games and indoor games like basket ball, badminton and table tennis. He believes that a person learns “team efforts” and “team spirit” only through the sports. It also teaches everyone to accept defeat in a healthy manner as no one can win each and every game or match everytime. This principle is of utmost importance in life as often it is seen that continuous success makes a person indifferent, insensitive and intolerant. May be for the same reason Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) in his speech on Ramrajya, announced the formation of Aniruddha's Institute of Bonsai Sports.

Shravana Bhakti

Sadguru,Shree, Aniruddha, Bapu, Aniruddhasinh, Bhakti, Shravan

Dear Friends,

In my previous post on Narration of Experiences, I had dwelt upon the importance of Shravana Bhakti, i.e. bhakti in the form of listening to the glories of the Sadguru and why we should strive to watch and listen atleast one anubhav kathan per day. On last Thursday Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) had, during His discourse, asked us to chant the Gurukshetram Mantra as many times as possible in this holy month of Shraavan. He had promised us that he would chant the first line of the Gurukshetram Mantra - “Om Shree Datta Guravay Namaha” with each one of us whenever we chant the mantra during this holy month.

Heartwarming response from my friends on Bapu's article on Financial Terrorism

The heartwarming response from my friends to my post on the English translation of Bapu article on Financial Terrorism has prompted me to take the discussion forward on this subject. I am reproducing at the end of this post, few of the responses received.

Bapu's (Aniruddhasinh) Write-up on 'Financial Terrorism'

My blogpost of 17th July 2012 about the book that Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) gifted me, mentioned the article 'Financial Terrorism' written by Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) for the Marathi weekly, 'Lokaprabha' (issue dated 22nd August 2003). A comment from one of my friends includes a request to make the article available. So here is the English translation of the article:

In the Marathi folklore there is a popular rhyme (somewhat on the lines of a limerick), that urges the rain to come, on the promise of giving it money; the money proves to be virtual, and yet the rain poured heavily.

Narration of Experiences (Anubhav Kathan)

Since the past few weeks, on each Saturday at 7.30 p.m. office members, including the two CEOs and deputy CEO assemble on the 5th floor of Happy Home for Anubhav Kathan. I am personally present along with Swapnilsinh and Paurassinh. The Anubhav Kathan, which usually lasts for an hour or so, is a combination of live narration by a Shraddhavaan and viewing of Anubhav Kathans that have already been recorded on video.

On Saturday last, we watched the video recording of the Anubhav Kathan by Dr. Ramansinh Umralkar, which had been narrated by him at Shree Harigurugram, late last year. What came out clearly from his experience was that how the impossible becomes easily possible and how certain death is warded off by the Sadguru’s infinite grace, if one reposes one’s faith completely in the Sadguru and follows the Sadguru’s command (aadnya) to the last word, without harbouring the slightest doubt.

Discussion Forum

In the inaugural post I had mentioned about GURUPOURNIMA and how I got the golden opportunity to perform the PADYA PUJAN of Sadguru Bapu. In that post I had quoted my most loving verses from Shri Saisachharita. In subsequent post I had discussed how Shri Saisacharita has greatly influenced my life. Reading these posts, many of the readers through their comments have suggested me to start a DISCUSSION FORUM on Shri Saisacharita. I have liked this suggestion and am inclined to start such a forum on this blog.

The Shree Ashwattha Maruti Poojan

Idol of Ashwattha Maruti Carved by Bapu
"O Subhata (Shreehanumanta - the supreme, the ultimate bhakta) lead me on the path of bhakti, show me the way to the bhagavanta. It is from You, that I want to learn bhakti" says Sant Tukaram in one of his compositions. Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) too has said time and again that it is guided by Hanumanta that every bhakta takes his first step or in other words begins his journey on the path of bhakti. And so Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) initiated for all His shraddhavaan friends, the 'Shree Ashwatthamaruti poojan' – the celebration of bhakti. In 1996 Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) initiated the Ramnavmi festival which was the very first followed by the Shree Ashwatthamaruti poojan festival in 1997.

Explanation to the Ghorakashtoddharan Stotra

Padukas of Shree Nrusinh Saraswati (Lord Dattatreya) at Home of Bapu

Yesterday we have seen the importance of chanting Ghorakashtoddharan Stotra in the month of Shraavan. In Bapu's (Aniruddhasinh) words the Yajna consists chanting as much as possible of our favourite among the names of the God, as also recalling to our mind as mush as possible all the attributes of God. And what is offering in this Yajna? It is the lack of bhakti (abhakti), lack of faith (ashraddha), lethargy and apathy. In Prathana 1 of Satyapravesh Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) says "Let us evoke Lord Dattatrey, the son of Anusaya, let us sing His glories and therefore chant Ghorakashtoddharan Stotra in the month of Shraavan".

GHORKASHTODHARAN STOTRAPATHAN

In the month of Shraavan, Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) expects all his Shraddhavan friends to chant the' Ghorkashtodharan Stotra” regularly. The importance of chanting the said stotra has been described by Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) in his discourses at Shriharigurugram. As explained by Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) the practical of Ghorkashtodharan Stotra is Aniruddha’s Academy of Disaster Management; a video clip is enclosed herewith, which is self-explanatory.

From the year 2003, Sadguru Shree Aniruddha Upasana Trust arranges Ghorkashtodharan Stotra Pathan (Chanting) for the entire month of Shraavan. This year the venue is Shree Krishna Hall, opposite Chitra Cinema, Naigaon, Dadar (East), Mumbai – 400 014. And the timings are as under:-

Sr. No.
Days
Session 1 Timing
Session 2 Timing
1.
Thursdays
9:30hrs. – 13:00hrs
16:00hrs – 19:00hrs
2.
All Other Days
9:30hrs. – 13:00hrs
17:30hrs – 21:00hrs

Dates: From 20th July, 2012 to 17th August, 2012.

In each session the Stotra will be chanted 108 times. The Shraddhavan friends can offer prasaad throughout the day which is then distributed to the Shraddhavans present. At the venue, the Shraddhavans who participate in the chanting may donate rice, pulses etc. which is then used for “Annapurna Prasaadam Yojana” under 13 Point Programme of Bapu (Aniruddhasinh).

Bapu (Aniruddhasinh), Nandai and Suchit Dada also attend this chanting atleast once in the month.

Tuesday, 17 July 2012

Last Saturday Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) had been to “Crossword” the one at Kemp’s Corner as it is Bapu’s (Aniruddhasinh)  favourite book shop. Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) loves reading and he expects his Shraddhavan friends to devote at least some time of the day for reading. He always emphasizes that reading makes a person versatile and also never feels lonely in life. Recently he visited Nerurkar’s Ideal Book Store in Dadar and purchased books on a variety of subjects which he gifted to Suchit Dada on his 50th birthday.

I know, when Bapu
(Aniruddhasinh) delivered a lecture on the “Thirteen Points Programme” he had practically read more than 400 books. Similar was the case when he spoke on RAM RAJYA. His personal collection of books is now our library. He had personally selected the books for our Sanstha’s library at Gurukul Juinagar. Many of the books there are donated by him.

On Saturday he gifted me a book named “Romancing The Balance Sheet” written by an imminent Chartered Accountant and founder & director of Lamcon School of Management, a business school located in Pune.  Bapu
(Aniruddhasinh) himself had written an article on “Finance” in a Marathi weekly magazine- Lokprabha. The article was on a unique subject of “Deficit Finance” and its effects on global economy; which is the current global scenario.

Responses of Friends and of Followers of the Blog

Mrs. Harshada Kolte a follower of the blog has given a comment as under; which is self explanatory:

विसरलात तुम्ही मज जरी क्‍वचित;

Why the Human Birth

(Note: This is English translation of my earlier Marathi post titled

It was really sad to learn about the demise of Darasinghji. Every Indian heart grieved. But then death does inevitably come to every jeeva does it not? Hemadpant discusses this very fact in the 43rd chapter of the Shreesaisachcharit.

Every birth is followed by death. The two are inseparable. Death is a state natural to the jeeva. Life is what is unnatural to it. - (chapter 43 verse 52)

Death is a state natural to the jeeva. Death is a state that is pleasurable for the jeeva. Life is the unnatural and altered state. – a fact the thinkers and the wise will confirm. - (chapter 43 verse 56)

But if that is how it is, 'what then is the purpose behind our birth in this world' is the question that could and does indeed come up for us. When it comes down to an appraisal of the life lived, 'what did I achieve?' is inevitably the issue. Hemadpant guides us to explain 'why at all the human birth?'

Where have we come from? Who are we? What is the reason behind our human birth? The one who knows the essence, the crux of this, is the wise one. The life of those who do not, ends up as pointless exercise.  - (chapter 8 verse 16)

If lasting happiness and contentment are the only objectives in the heart, if the Bhagwanta is the only one we see in all creation, we surely have values that lead us to the supreme, the ultimate fulfillment. - (chapter 8 verse 31)

Further, Hemadpant goes on to explain how we ought to put the human body to use and how we ought not.

If life is used up or spent merely over food, sleep, and other such sensory pleasures, how does the human being differ from the dog or any other beast for that matter? We must give this a thought, we must use the 'vivek' (our ability to discern the right from the wrong) and take the right decision. - (chapter 8 verse 12)

Do not allow the body and the sensory pleasures to rule over you. You have to be in command of the body and not the other way round. Do not indulge or give in to the undue demands of the body. Do not pamper it, for if that happens you will only end up throwing open the gates of hell for yourself. - (chapter 8 verse 33)

Hemadpant then goes on to voice his earnest concern:
The Ishvar was very happy that He had created the human body. His main intention was that the human being would, committed to his ability to discern between the right and wrong along with His ability to turn his focus and attention inwards(towards the Bhagavanta), sing the glories of the bhagavanta, i.e. keep coming closer to the Bhagavanta. - (chapter 8 verse 52)

Though finite and mortal, man is the only being in the creation equipped with a body – a means so appropriate to offer and commit in sadhana and attain the infinite, the immortal Narayan. - (chapter 43 verse 53)

Hemadpant then makes an appeal to us:
Strive for and towards the knowledge of the True Self while your body is still able. Do not squander a single moment of this worthy and precious human birth. - (chapter 8 verse 78)

And what did Hemadpant do in order that not a single moment of "his human birth" be squandered? He made the following request to Shree Sainath:
I am but a server of Your Feet O Sainath! Please do not dishearten me. (please grant me this request). As long as there is life in my body and until there is breath in it, please use it to serve the purpose of Your cause and mission. - (chapter 3 verse 40)

Ordinary bhaktas that we are, we might wonder how Hemadpant could make this wonderful and actually supreme request. The answer comes from Hemadpant himself in the 40th chapter.

The heart, the mind ardently longed, craved for Sai and this was a willful and ceaseless exercise. Despite the intimacy of seven years that he shared with Sainath, Hemadpant did yearn (आस) for Sai to visit his home and have a meal with him and did not dismiss what he saw treating it as a mere dream or illusion (भास). For him, it was the truth, he trusted it.

Hemadpant's longing for Sai was a ceaseless and constant activity – during this birth and even during his earlier ones and so forever. It was for Sai and Sai alone that he craved for every single moment. That Sainath come to his home for a meal was his intense desire and so his dream could never have been a mere illusion. It was the truth. Indeed the path paved by Hemadpant is the path that every Sai bhakta walks.

DARA SINGH - HEARTFELT TRIBUTE

Dara Singh, who endeared himself to an entire nation for more than half a century, initially as a wrestler par excellence, (who was once crowned Rustam-i-Hind) and then as an actor of substance is no more. He passed into eternity today (12-July-2012) morning.

Dara Singh who was born on 19th November 1928 as Deedar SIngh Randhawa will always be remembered for his realistic and convincing portrayal of Hanuman. He played the role in scores of films, the last being the TV serial 'Ramayana', which had taken the nation by storm. He was in a manner of speaking, the face of Hanuman. He also played role of Bheema and a memorable role of Balarama in the epic 'Balarama Shri Krishna' which I have seen.

Param Poojya Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) who has Himself learnt wrestling had a very high regard for Dara Singh's style of wrestling and has actually seen his performances.

In Dara Singh's death we have lost a genuine sportsman, artiste and a human being. I pray at Param Poojya Bapu's (Aniruddhasinh)feet that his soul rest in peace. Hari Om..

English Version:
The Dattayaag culminated today with the offering of the poornahuti. All in the family are present during the aarti that follows the poornahuti. The aarti sung at this time are a select few of those sung during the Ganpati festival celebrated at Bapu's home every year.

English Version:
It was quite late in the night but the crowds were still pouring into a place already swarmed with people waiting for Sadguru Bapu's (Aniruddhasinh) darshan. Many arrived for the darshan after offering poojan to the 'Trivikram' – the representation of the principle that is the Sadguru. And soon it was time for the aarti. To begin with, Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) offered the aarti to His own Guru (the Master - Shreegurudatta). Every time that my Sadguru does so, He enters into the role of a 'bhakta', an ardent bhakta overwhelmed with intense love, His heart full with bhakti for His Guru. The intense love, the longing, the ache in Bapu's (Aniruddhasinh) heart (the 'aartata' in the 'aarti') reflects on His face – it is so evident. Truly, how ought a bhakta to be – that is what we learn from observing Him – even that..

The 3 day Dattayaag began yesterday (9th July 2012) at Bapu's (Aniruddhasinh) home. The special feature of this 'yaag' is that, accompanied by the recitation of the 'Airani Mantra' pieces of wood are rubbed against each other and fire is set alight without the use of any other substance or means (without any ignitable means or any substance at all apart from wood). This yaag culminates with a Poornahuti on the third day. At Bapu's (Aniruddhasinh) home here in Mumbai, this kind of a 3 day yaag happens twice every year. A one day Datta yaag happens at His house in Gangapur as well...

Wimbledon 2012

Yesterday I had an opportunity to watch Wimbledon Final for a while. It was a superb game between two very much talented players. Federer's fans were delighted to see how he won his 17th Grand Slam title, the most by any player. He  also regained his ‘World Number 1’ spot and equaled world record of Pete Sampras for holding this spot for 286 weeks. But I was told that the match between Federer and Djokovic was much more exciting and better played than the final.

Federer's consistent performance shows his "commitment to his cause". It is also to be noted that Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have won 29 of the last 30 Grand Slam titles between them.

Gurupournima 2012

We celebrated the Gurupournima yesterday. The darshan of Sadguru Bapu (Aniruddhasinh)  is indeed so gratifying! Blessed with the darshan, the face of every single bhakta was oozing joy. The arrangements on the stage – the depictions of instances highlighting just what it means to repose firm faith at the feet of the Sadguru, what it is to have unconditional trust in Him did I am sure reach out to every single heart with love for the Sadguru.

"Firm faith in the Sadguru –that is all that suffices, just that one whole-hearted trust in Him, that He alone is the Doer, the Protector and the One who rids of the undesirable" - This verse from the 19th chapter of the Shree Saisachcharit, so convincingly and beautifully illustrated I know, drew special attention. Bapu (Aniruddhasinh) has already told us that the year we are in now, is the year to anchor firm, this very verse in our mind, our thought and deed.

Let us all repose this one faith, this singular trust at the Sadguru's Feet – and then He will no matter what and in any case alter and amend the writings of fate – He will seal it. Let us do our job. As for Him, He always does His.

The Eminence and the Glory of the Sadguru

ll Avadhoot Chintan Shreegurudevadatta ll

ll Om Namashchandikayaee ll

All other gods are illusory, unreal; the Guru alone is the God Eternal. Once you repose your faith in him, he will help you overcome even the pre-destined.
                                                                        - Shri Saisaccharit (Chapter 10 Verse 4)

The Shreesaisachcharit holds ever so many verses that sing the glories of the Sadguru! But this one has been and will always be close to my heart. It is the one that fills my heart. In this one single verse, Hemadpant highlights the importance of the 'Charan', the Feet of the Sadguru. The bhakta ought to repose firm faith and trust in the Sadguru. Yes certainly but what exactly do these words imply? Where exactly does he submit and offer his faith and trust? This is the verse that answers these questions.

Hemadpant shares with us, his own special moment of grace -

Chapter 2 Verse 140
I was blessed, I experienced the touch of Sai’s Feet,
And His words of care, concern and love
That was the moment, the moment of the ultimate fulfillment; life struck the point of pinnacle
That moment on life was new.

I can say the same. On the day of the Gurupournima of 1997 I did the 'padyapoojan' (the poojan of the Feet) of my Sadguru, Parampujya Bapu (Aniruddhasinh). That was the ultimate fulfillment of life, where life reached the point of pinnacle and yes indeed this moment marked 'a new beginning', in fact 'the beginning of a new life'. That my Sadguru gave to me the opportunity to offer the 'padyapoojan' after my Dada, is pure love, sheer compassion on His part. And today as we celebrate the Gurupournima, I am reliving that special moment.

Sai_Sadashiv_Murti_Aniruddha_Bapu
On Bapu's (Aniruddhasinh) instruction, my father gave to me as the 'guru mantra', verse 152 of the 11th chapter of the Shree Saisachcharit.

Chapter 11 Verse 152
All your desires, even the unusual will be fulfilled
And thus ultimately rendered contented and free of them
You will attain to the state of intimacy with the Sadguru-parmatma – every moment and forever
And so the Ram-parmatma will make your heart His abode – every moment and forever.
This was what Sainath had to say about the tunnel under the Neem tree:
This is my Guru’s seat, my most sacred legacy

He then got the 'paduka' of Shree Akkalkot Swami installed close to this very place at the foot of the Neem tree (the Gurusthaan)

On the occasion of the Gurupournima, I would like to share a few of my favourite verses that sing the glories of the Sadguru.
- Shri Saisaccharit (Chapter 1 Verse 57)

With devotion, offer at the Sadguru’s at the Sadguru’s feet your body, mind, worldly wealth, - everything, and dedicate your entire life in the service of the guru.
